Dear Juliet,

I'm so happy to read your letter! I love rice and stew as well! Thinking about stew is making me hungry now...I'm going to have to cook up a pot soon. I live in Hawaii which is multi-cultural. So we have people and many kinds of food from all over the world. I think that makes Hawaii unique. Many immigrants bring in their food and culture which makes life more interesting I think. Food brings us closer together and we can make friends by sharing our food. My favorite fruit is mango. We had 3 mango trees in my backyard when I was growing up. During mango season we shared our bountiful fruit with the whole neighborhood and had mango bread, mango pie, pickled mango, and plain old mango sliced up plain.

I'm not sure what netball is. Is that like tennis? And reading is very good, I agree. Do you have a library there? What is your favorite book?

Aloha,

Aunty Sue

Dear the student of the other letter,

I'm sorry your name got cut off. Can you tell me your name again please? I loved your letter as well!

Football is fun to play with friends and is good exercise too! Is that like soccer or American football I wonder?

Jollaf rice sounds yummy. I saw a picture online and I will try and find a recipe. Maybe I can learn how to cook it all the way in Hawaii!

I thought I would share a picture of Hawaiian food. A Hawaiian plate with poi, laulau, mac salad, rice, kalua pig, and three kinds of poke. Poke is often (but not always) made with raw fish. Does that sound yucky? Ha!

Aloha,

Aunty Sue
